norma kamali raw veggie recipe

If you saw this photo and thought Norma Kamali was some gorgeous millennial, you wouldn’t be the first. While life in Manhattan has a way of wearing people down, this NYC-born fashion designer has cheated the clock, using healthy habits to keep herself looking flawless from the inside out at — drum roll — seventy-two years young.

Kamali, known for her decidedly modern and playful designs, is also famous for being the real-deal when it comes to natural health and wellness. In this article for Vogue, Norma professes her love for raw food: “Whenever I’m hungry and it’s not meal time, I love nuts with green juices. Blueberries and walnuts make a fantastic dessert. There are so many great foods that are healthy for you and are delicious. Start collecting a group of them and creating meals around them.”

Her midnight snack hack? Genius: “If you get up in the middle of the night with the munchies, have vegetables in the fridge that you can have. Let cauliflower with lemon, olive oil, and turmeric sit in the fridge and marinate. It’s delicious. Anything you can eat raw is great for you.” We love this tip on it’s own – backed by Norma’s impressive physique, it’s even more compelling.

If you’re not familiar with the raw food diet, it’s all about eating more alkaline foods – learn a bit about it here. Kamala isn’t the only one inspiring us in the direction of more raw foods: pop over and meet another classic, ageless septuagenarian, Mimi Kirk. Mimi blows us away with her timeless glow – she’s pushing 80 looks but credits her vibrant glow to an all raw food diet. Explore Mimi’s fridge and all things Mimi here.

  1. Thanks for this great post! I love women in all ages… actually, I find older women with flair much more interesting than younger ones… there is an air of understanding, wisdom, freedom and peace around women who are authentic – they become more beautiful with every year and every line…

  3. All very good, but look at her ear, trigs and jawline, no mention of the facelift? Just be honest, a combination of eating well and surgery, this is not attainable otherwise.

  5. Why are young women always so jealous of older women, who maintain they’re beauty?? Who cares about face lifts. She’s a somebody. Her critics will never measure up. Say take several seats and shut up

  6. Comparing ourselves to a 70 year old that has had plastic surgery up the wazoo is like praising someone that has body dismorphia for being naturally healthy. Nope. Apples and oranges.

  8. As a fully qualified nutrition scientist people should not be taking advise about meals and snacking from somebody who evidently does not eat enough in the first place. I am not talking about appearance, I mean that she mentioned that she feels hungry outside of meals and provides advise for “midnight snacking”. This behaviour is highly symptomatic of inadequate nutrition and calorie density at main meals, leaving her hungry at intervals throughout the day, even at night time. All the evidence suggest that we should not consume food or drinks (other than water) when we should biologically be sleeping, thus hunger at night would imply an insufficient dietary intake. Why do women insist on eating like birds, too little and too often. Three main meals a day, with adequate protein and fibre should be sufficient for most people.

    • These are valid points but we are drawing a ton of conclusions about her habits just based on her sharing a healthy midnight snack idea. You could be right, but I know people who get hungry often but only eat a little until they feel full and could easily be someone who might wake up hungry at night sometimes. Not watching their weight, just how they are. I’m not a big fan of 3 big meals myself. I just eat when I’m hungry. whoever decided 3 meals is best anyway? I’ve always wondered….
