The fitness blogging world has taken the internet by storm in the last few years. Now more than ever, it’s easy to find an accountability buddy, a new treadmill routine, or just someone like you who is taking their health into their own hands. From mommies to college grads, from burpees to Body Pump, there is someone and something in the fitness blogging world for everyone. Here are a few of our must-bookmark blogs when it comes to getting inspired to perspire through the holidays.

  • Our top fitness blogs to bookmark now...

  • MizFit

Carla Birnberg of MizFit.com isn't your typical fitness blogger - and that is why we love her so much. Her tag line "Because Fitness Isn't About Fitting In" guides Carla as she dives into everything from product reviews to hilarious anecdotes about her daughter and partner-in-crime. You'll be seriously inspired and laugh your face off simultaneously.

  • Q by Equinox

Equinox Fitness is at the cutting edge of everything fitness-related, and their blog is no exception. Qblog is not only visually stunning, but exposes you to the top trends and scientific studies when it comes to breaking a sweat. Qblog, we salute you.

  • Fit Bottomed Girls

When Jennipher Walters and Erin Whitehead originally started Fit Bottomed Girls, they intended it to be a hub for all things fitness. Due to the site’s increasing popularity, the FBG team now includes all types of fresh perspectives and fun content. The FBGs are all about being real women, not some fitness ideal or bodybuilder. Fun, informative, and down-to-earth.

  • Fitnessista

Gina of Fitnessista started her blog to share her healthy recipes, workouts, and lifestyle with her personal training clients. Since then, it's exploded into a go-to blog for quick workouts, clean eats, and a dose of what it's like to really live a fit lifestyle in the "real world."  We love Gina's upbeat personality and hearing about her adventures as a military wife, new mom, and all-around awesome individual.

  • The Great Fitness Experiment

One year of trying every fitness craze under the sun? We wish we could! That is why we love Charlotte, who has done it for us! Charlotte takes the guesswork out of exercise - you know those moves you've always wanted to try? That piece of equipment that makes you wonder: "Does this really work?" Use The Great Fitness Experiment as your guide.

  • YogaDork

Are you a yogi? Do you love to laugh? We've got the blog for you. YogaDork offers commentary on the latest yoga news with wit and wisdom. They remind us that through all the Warriors, Down Dogs, and Half Moons, one of the most important take-aways from yoga is not to take yourself too seriously. YogaDork, we heart you.

  • Fitness Black Book

Rusty Moore launched Fitness Black Book in 2007 as a way to detail what it really took to look like your fave lean, mean fitness machine celebrities (without the crazy extremes or a bodybuilding mentality). Since then, it has evolved into a hub for "all the tips your personal trainer doesn't know about." We love his easy to understand circuit training workout!

  • Meals & Moves

Janetha of Meals & Moves: wanna be our new BFF? This fit chick writes with the candor and ease of a best friend you've known for ages - a best friend who is game to try any fitness challenge thrown her way. Visit her site for the workouts and recipes, stay for her way of making you feel like family.

  • FitSugar

FitSugar is our favorite when it comes to quick bits of helpful and fun fitness anecdotes. We love their sound advice, celeb profiles, and short yet effective how-to videos.

  • Mark's Daily Apple

Mark's Daily Apple is kind of  the golden standard when it comes to fitness blogging. Billed as "primal living in the modern world," Mark's advice is for Paleo devotees and non-Paleo folks alike. Always consistent, always informative, always posting exactly what we've been wondering for months on end. Why is my weight loss stalled? Why am I not sleeping? Mark has all the answers and a pretty stellar lifestyle program to follow if interested.

  • Blogilates

We didn't think it was possible - but fitness guru and POP Pilates creater Cassey Ho makes us LOVE the moves we usually loathe, via Blogilates. Couple this with her upbeat personality, wealth of information and fit fashion tips, and you've got your new online addiction. Squats, hundreds, and leg raises, oh my!

  • Huffpost Healthy Living

Formerly the fun fitness blog operating under the moniker of "That's Fit," HuffPo's fit-minded corner of the web is not to be missed. It's everything you'd expect from a Huffington Post site: quality content, intriguing contributors, and the nitty-gritty facts you're dying to know about. We love their nutrition posts and wellness factoids, but their fitness content is especially stellar. Bookmarked!

  • Running Off The Reese's

Dear Cely of Running Off The Reese's: If laughter truly burns calories, then we've dropped a dress size since first perusing your blog. Cely knows how to strike the balance of informative and hilarious, mixing quality workout insights with LOL-worthy memes and celebrity "inspiration." This twenty-something beauty also suffers from rheumatoid arthritis, so her positive outlook and fit lifestyle despite the challenges thrown her way are incredibly inspiring.

  • Peanut Butter Fingers

Julie Fagan founded Peanut Butter Fingers in September 2009 as a way to simply share her fitness tips, yummy recipes, and life tidbits with her friends and family. Since then, PBF has grown into a force to be reckoned with in the fitbloggin' world. Julie updates three times daily, documenting her life one bite, one step, one laugh at a time. Her smile is infectious, and the way she balances her life's various components makes her a true healthy role model.

  1. Ooooh Thanks!! I’m always looking for more health blogs to add to the reader! A couple more I love are No More Dirty Looks and Well & Good NYC. Both are more health related than fitness, but I still love them! Tim Ferris also has a good blog based on his 4-Hour Body book.

Also I want to add Positively Positive. It might not be about fitness- but the general message is super healthy!

    • Great suggestions, Elle! When it comes to health and wellness from the inside out, we adore Positively Positive and Well & Good NYC as well. And now, thanks to you, have two more healthy living faves to add to the list! XO

Especially this time of year. Amanda runs a Holiday Bootie Buster Challenge that has 1000 entrants every year, from now through the beginning of the new year. Check out #HBBC2012 on Twitter.

  9. YES to marksdaily apple – even though I’m not paleo/primal, I find his site super informative and I like his approach about both physical and mental health.
PBFingers on the other hand is one of the most boring blogs I’ve ever read, her blog posts are very repetitive and her life is pathetic.

Other fitness blogs I love are ZuzkaLight.com (for workout videos) and SweatLikeAPig (for weight-lifting tips).

  10. Check out Ballet Beautiful- Ballet-inspired fitness program. You will never go to the gym again. I love this program it is intense, fun and challenging.

  41. Hey guys! Just wanted to let you know that my new weights blog will be coming soon. Most of you know me as a running guru – guilty! However, the new and improved Coloradogary74 is turning to weights in a big way. I went from precariously running through the hidden trails of Northern Colorado to an old fashioned diehard gym rat. It’s what I live for now, and my new blog will dive into weights just as hard and as fast as I did! So if you want to know the best way to work your lutes, or just want to know the standard gym lingo, then you will want to check out my new blog which undoubtedly will be on this list next year.

    Signed,

    Coloradogary74

Over time weights will increase your muscle mass and strength but karate will give you spirit and harmony throughout your life. If you would like more info please don’t hesitate to contact me via the karateusa blog.

What confuses a lot of people that want nothing to do with exercise, is what exercise actually means – it’s not just about lifting heavy weights over and over and working up a sweat – exercise is about getting involved in an activity that gets your heart racing and also burn lots of calories at the same time…

  105. I’ve recently launched a really great program called the Fitness for Heroes Challenge, benefiting the Catch A Lift Fund. Fitness for Heroes Challenges are fun, easy, and active challenges/competitions that gyms all over the U.S. can participate in to raise money for the Catch A Lift Fund. Is there anyway I could get this advertised or mentioned on your site? Catch A Lift Fund is a non profit 501c3 which buys yearly gym memberships for post 9/11 wounded veterans. It also buys them brand new gym equipment and delivers it to their house so they can work out at home if they are unable to get to a gym. The money raised through the Fitness for Heroes Challenges will help Catch A Lift Fund continue to purchase these memberships and gym equipment for the over 130 new applications they receive each month from wounded warriors in need of their services. Please feel free to email me with questions: katelynrockwell@gmail.com THANKS!

  194. Barriers to Fitness
In January, gyms are filled with motivated people looking to turn their lives around and build their new healthy lifestyles, but by March this population has diminished. What are these obstacles and difficulties that force people out of the gym and back onto their couches? I’ve broken down the myriad number of reasons into 3 broad reasons, and found solutions to them. Time, motivation, and the infamous “adjustment” can be to blame for the majority of fitness failures.

Time: The one thing we never have enough of, and CONSTANTLY want more of. Time. From working, to taking care of the family, to keeping up with the hustle and bustle of a social life there just never seems to be enough time. Convenience is another gigantic problem when it comes to time. Everyone wants more time, so it’s convenient to just stop at a fast food restaurant and get dinner. Now, I’m not going to ask that you overwrite space and give yourself time to change your habits, but a few simple tips may open a great window of opportunity for exercising and making better choices.

Longer workouts DOES NOT mean more calories burned! Intense workouts at shorter intervals can be a great way for a busy person to get in a workout and not have to skip another part of their day. Intense crossfit workouts usually range from 30 minutes to an hour and are still a great way to get back in shape.

Most people do not look at exercising as a priority when they schedule out their lives. Time management can be a great way to force (but not really force) yourself back into that mentality that it is essential. When planning out your week, or day, make time for exercising by thinking of it as something that NEEDS to get done, and cannot wait. When the exercising becomes a routine, it will be no question as to if you make it to your daily workout, just when.

All of the exercising you do in a day does not cancel out the food you are putting in your body. It is absolutely necessary to put nutritional foods in your body for it to be able to exercise properly. Completely cut out convenience and fast food restaurants by trying new and intriguing recipes at home so that you are more tempted to have your new recipe as opposed to something you have eaten already. Making meals ahead of time and freezing them is also a great way to save time and still have food convenient, but in your own refrigerator.

Motivation: Motivation can stem from a few different areas depending on your individual lifestyle. Friends, enjoyment, and just plain laziness are the three most common areas of motivation (or lack thereof) for people to not exercise regularly. Most people do lose motivation towards the beginning of their new exercise routine, and regaining that motivation once it has been lost may seem difficult, but it is still possible through a few healthy steps.

ENJOY what you do. Most people think of exercise in a loathing way, but not all exercise has to be a chore. Get into an exercise routine or type that genuinely like doing. Recreational sports, swimming, and yoga are all things that are great exercise, and can also be fun. Interests in some exercise types may spark other interests as well!

Another token to enjoying the exercise you do is having company to do it with you. It is human nature to want to feel supported and not alone in difficult situations such as getting back into an exercise routine. Bring a friend to your workout space, or make friends throughout your journey in places where someone can motivate and support you while they do the same thing.

Defeating that laziness just seems absolutely impossible. Well, it’s not. When the exercise that you are doing is fun, and interesting and there are great people surrounding you it is a matter of getting over the first hump and into a steady routine. When a steady routine is established, it will feel like a part of your life that you do not need to question whether you are going to do it.

The Adjustment: The adjustment from a not-so healthy lifestyle to a healthy lifestyle can be just plain, HARD. Physical challenges, and gaining a mentality to move forward with your new found healthy living can be extremely challenging. This thought may even scare some into not exercising at all, because the beginning stages are just too exhausting. By jumping into that exercise routine the right way with these tricks, the adjustment can go a lot smoother and make for a great transition time.

Make the adjustment a game. Compete with yourself to see how many reps you can do at the gym, or how many times you can run around the track. This will keep the adjustment fun, and not so serious with a healthy competition.

Talk to someone. Family, friends, workout buddies are all great people to talk to when the adjustment from unhealthy to healthy is becoming challenging. These people can offer support, and even sometimes a helping hand because they know what is truly best and have confidence that you will achieve your goals.

HAVE CONFIDENCE IN YOURSELF! This is the most important tip I will give. Have confidence in yourself and keep going. Do not let the beginning stages pull you down and kill yourself confidence and motivation. So, you gained back those 4 pounds? Well, you lost them before you can lose them again. Don’t feel as though this is your end all be all. You will see results!

Exercise is important and essential to a healthy living style, but it’s not always easy. By taking these simple tips and tricks and changing your lifestyle you will become happy, healthy, and start seeing changes. Happy living!
