Each year at New Year’s, Pressed Juicery gets as busy as can be as it seems the whole world joins in on a good and green juice cleanse – our own office staff included! One question Pressed Juicery folks hear all the time from juicers relates to picking between our Cleanse 1, 2 and 3: “How do I know which juice cleanse is right for me?”

Take a cue from our own team. We stormed Pressed Juicery headquarters in LA and are sharing profiles of three employees below. All live varying degrees of the Pressed Juicery lifestyle, and they all love a good juice cleanse. While lifestyles vary wildly at Pressed Juicery headquarters, one thing is certain: we all know how to cleanse – and every one of us seems to do it differently! Check out how these three members of the Pressed Juicery family cleanse and pick up tips for making your juice cleanse count. Find the team member you relate to most and try the cleanse that works best for you. Happy juicing!

Cleanse 1: Athletic, But Balanced

Name:

Cody Olendorff, Regional Training Manager

Why I Cleanse:

I like to cleanse at the start of every season. For me, it’s kind of like pressing a reset button every couple of months. Cleansing keeps me on the straight and narrow. I love this cleanse because it’s got just enough variety and calories to make the process feel like a breeze – perfect for athletes or first-timers.

When I'm Not Cleansing, My Diet...

…usually consists of clean-ish foods. I am a meat eater, and include a lean protein with every meal. I mainly consume eggs and oats in the mornings,  and lunch is almost always a fresh green salad with grilled chicken and black beans. I like to have a post-workout shake before dinner and then usually finish my day with a piece of salmon or chicken with rice and some sort of cooked greens. I eat healthy, but am not above balancing out my greens and lean proteins with the occasional burger or fries – it’s all about balance.

Go-to Workout:

I proudly consider myself a gym rat and try to be in the gym as often as possible, 5-6 times a week. I stick to a pretty general resistance workout, splitting the body into major muscle groups and focusing on one group each day. I also like to have one day of good, intense cardio…followed by a nice steam as a reward!

Cleansing Tip:

Make sure you do the pre-cleanse steps, slowly eliminating certain foods and habits from your diet. I know, committing to six days of detox sounds worse than just the three days of juicing. But trust me, a 3-day juice cleanse is always much easier if you slowly start to adapt your body to the changes in lifestyle beforehand.

Fave Juice On Cleanse:

By far, the Coconut Cinnamon. I think it tastes like the milk left over from Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal.

Cleanse 2: Healthy and Effective

Name:

Ellen Sweeney, VIP Accounts Manager

Why I Cleanse:

To maintain my healthy lifestyle! I think it’s the best way to jump-start my system back into healthy habits after those times where I fall out of my usual healthy lifestyle patterns (like after the holidays or summer vacations).

When I'm Not Cleansing, My Diet...

Is as clean as possible, envisioning my food as my fuel. I try not to eat anything with crazy ingredients I’m unable to pronounce, but also do not eliminate any major food groups. Lots of almond butter, oats, yams, kale, brown rice, fruit, eggs, veggies, beans and lentils. Once a week, I like to splurge on a fabulous “cheat” meal to keep my eating habits exciting!

Go-to Workout:

I set my goal for 5 days a week, and as long as I am doing a workout I enjoy, I look forward to it! I love barre classes; it’s the perfect mix of intensive muscle work and simple stretches to relax me at the end of a crazy day. After just a few classes, I could see a crazy difference in my muscle definition!

Cleansing Tip:

The biggest thing to me is thinking about how great you will feel at the end of the cleanse during the times where you want to give up. Every time I ask myself, “Can I make it to the end?” I think ahead to the amazing feeling of being refreshed that I have at the end of a cleanse, and it’s enough to push me through!

Fave Juice On Cleanse:

I’m a huge fan of Greens 2… I love the large helping of green veggies plus the sweetness of apple. It’s like my grown-up apple juice!

Cleanse 3: Clean and Green

Name:

Lauren Felts, Contributing Nutrition Editor

Why I Cleanse:

First off, I cleanse to offset my exposure to toxins – whether that be from the air I breathe (come on, I live in LA!), the water I drink (I cannot always have my own alkaline water on hand), or from one too many vegan chocolate cupcakes. I want to make sure to prevent disease and keep my body in tip-top shape. The second reason I cleanse is for a fresh start. It is really easy to let old bad habits come back into your life, so I use juice cleansing to get rid of cravings like sugar and carbs and get re-motivated to eat super clean! Cleanse 3 always does the trick.

When I'm Not Cleansing, My Diet...

…is primarily focused on green vegetables (especially cruciferous ones), healthy fats like avocado, raw nuts and seeds, coconut, green smoothies, free-range organic eggs, seasonal fruit, healing soups (love Tom Kha!), fermented vegetables like sauerkraut and, of course, raw superfood desserts. I love cacao, goji berry and cashew bites!

Go-to Workout:

I love to mix it up… a blend of outdoor activities like walks on the beach, bike rides and hikes, along with indoor activities like yoga and pilates. This way I still have a chance to be in nature, which I find therapeutic, while also focusing on being strong and flexible.

Cleansing Tip:

Take time for yourself and relax during cleansing! We all seem to have a tendency towards being as productive as possible at all times, even while on a cleanse, but it is best to just chill out. Cleansing can be extremely emotional and draw up deep-rooted feelings, so I recommend creating a space to treat yourself kindly. Think hot baths, long walks, nights reading a book, saunas, massages, and going to bed early. This really pays off and gives your body the chance to truly heal itself, because, remember: Cleansing is about healing, inside and out.

Favorite Juice On Cleanse:

Greens 1 – all greens, all the time!
